Why Does Roberto De Zerbi want both Savinho and Omar Marmoush?

Tottenham’s need for attacking reinforcements could not have been more apparent after last season’s nightmare campaign. The Lilywhites scored just 48 goals in the Premier League, and injuries to Richarlison, Dominic Solanke and Mohammed Kudus, to name just a few, meant they found themselves in a relegation scrap.

As reported by David Ornstein, Spurs are working on a double deal to sign Savinho and Omar Marmoush from Manchester City.

Savinho has found it hard to make an impact during his tenure as a Citizen, and he has been heavily linked to a move to North London during the entirety of the summer transfer window.

However, Omar Marmoush is a name now in the spotlight, and a move away from Manchester City is becoming all the more likely following reports that the 27-year-old is looking for more regular game time.

Why does De Zerbi want the pair?

There’s a feeling with both players that they can both play at a better level that has yet to be unlocked, and at Spurs, where more regular game time is almost a guarantee, this becomes an enticing move.

Wages won’t be an issue. As seen already in this window, the board have moved away from their longstanding, rigid wage structure and have begun to splash the cash. Micky Van de Ven became the most recent Tottenham player to sign a contract extension in a lucrative deal that saw him become one of Spurs’ top earners on an estimated £240,000 a week.

Despite injury concerns, especially given the problems Tottenham faced last season, adding two players with the ability to cover multiple attacking positions would give De Zerbi far more options going forward.

Savinho would provide Spurs with another natural winger who can take on defenders and create chances, while Marmoush would offer something different in the final third with his pace, movement and ability to play through the middle.

For a Tottenham side that struggled badly for goals last season, the potential arrival of both players could go a long way towards solving one of De Zerbi's biggest problems.

There is still plenty to be decided before either deal gets over the line, but if Spurs can pull off a double swoop for two players of this quality, it would send a clear message that they are serious about putting last season's struggles behind them.
