Tottenham’s Carabao Cup campaign gets underway this evening with a visit from Charlton Athletic.

The Addicks arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in fine form, having won their first three competitive matches of the new season, most notably dispatching West Ham last Saturday.

For the Lilywhites, it was a damning defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium over the weekend - one that left a sour taste in the mouths of the fanbase.

Roberto De Zerbi will be keen to right those wrongs and set Spurs back on course before facing Newcastle United at home this coming Saturday.

Spurs announced the signing of Savio yesterday after spending the best part of the summer chasing the 22-year-old and have confirmed he is eligible to feature in the match.

De Zerbi admitted in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday that he is not sure how big a role the Brazilian may play in the game.

“Savio, I don't know if he's ready to play if everything is ok to play or on the bench,” said De Zerbi.

Elsewhere, news broke yesterday that James Maddison has suffered another injury, this time to his shoulder, and will miss more time on the sidelines.

De Zerbi confirmed that Mohammed Kudus is also not ready to feature.

More positively, Pedro Porro and Micky van de Ven are both back and available for selection, with Dominic Solanke ready to start.

"Van de Ven comes on the bench, Pedro Porro comes on the bench, Solanke is available to play, to start the game,” said the Lilywhites manager.

Luca Williams-Barnett is set to be on the bench for the second time running following a highly impressive pre-season. De Zerbi confessed he planned to hand the youngster some minutes away at Brentford last Saturday but the right moment didn’t arrive.

Regarding team selection, the Spurs boss must decide whether to give Lucas Bergvall another start after he struggled with the intensity of Brentford and was hooked at half-time last time out.

Destiny Udogie is likely to get his first start of the season to aid in regaining match fitness, with Mathys Tel and Mikey Moore also expected to keep their places on either wing.

Martin Dubravka can also be expected to make his Spurs debut.

For De Zerbi, a morale-boosting comprehensive win will be exactly what the doctor ordered.
