Lucas Bergvall has committed his long-term future to Spurs by signing a new contract with the club.

The Swedish midfielder, regarded as one of the best young talents in Europe, has already racked up 80 appearances for Tottenham and 14 senior caps for Sweden, including history-making appearances at this summer's World Cup, all at just 20 years old.

Bergvall spoke on Spurs' official website about his delight at extending his stay. He said, "I think we're building something great here. It's an exciting time for the Club and that's why I'm happy to extend my contract."

"I'm always trying to achieve as much as possible, to be the best version of myself both on and off the pitch and I know this is the right place to do that."

Sporting Director Johan Lange praised the midfielder's development since arriving in north London. He said, "Lucas is an outstanding young player with enormous potential and we are delighted that he has committed his future to the Club."

"He has demonstrated not only his technical ability and intelligence on the pitch, but also the character we expect from our players."

Roberto De Zerbi was equally full of praise, adding, "Lucas is brave, he wants responsibility and has the personality to play in big moments."

"I believe his best football is still ahead of him and we want to give Lucas the platform to reach his full potential."

Signed from Djurgarden in February 2024, Bergvall made a superb start to life at Spurs with 45 appearances in his debut campaign, capped off with a hat-trick of Player of the Season awards last May. He's added a further 33 appearances since, along with a UEFA Europa League winners' medal.

This past summer, however, Bergvall had made it clear he wanted to leave the club in an attempt to find more game time. No move materialised, with De Zerbi allegedly making assurances to the player even after signing Sandro Tonali and Matheus Fernandes.
